Seth Murphy is from Rock Hill, South Carolina. After earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Euphonium and Bass Trombone Performance from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC, he joined the cast of the Tony and Emmy award-winning production Blast! Seth was a euphonium soloist, trombonist, and also played snare drum in the production from 2007-2008.
Seth’s drum corps marching experience was with the Carolina Crown in 2000(contrabass), and 2003-2005 (Euphonium and horn sergeant). He also played tuba in the Star of Indiana Alumni Corps in 2010.
Seth also has spent many years as an educator in the marching arts at different levels. He was a brass instructor and ensemble manager at Nation Ford High School (Fort Mill, SC), Ardry Kell HS (Charlotte, NC), Rock Hill HS, Northwestern HS, and several middle schools in the North and South Carolina main regions.
Murphy has been teaching in the drum corps activity in many different positions since 2005. He was a baritone and mellophone instructor at Carolina Crown from 2005-2007, tuba instructor and Assistant Brass Caption Head at the Blue Stars from 2008-2011, and a Brass Caption head at Pacific Crest from 2012-2014. Seth’s most recent drum corps instruction was with Pacific Crest from 2015-2017 as the Program and Staff Coordinator.
Seth also has worked in the newly formed WGI Winds division of WGI as the Program Manager and Staff Coordinator for Orange County Independent Winds Ensemble from Orange County, CA. He served on the staff for the group for its only two seasons in existence in 20015 and 2016. OCI Winds was a Silver (2015) and Bronze (2016) medalist those seasons in the Winds Independent World class at WGI Championships in Dayton, OH. He is now the Winds Coordinator for West Coast Winds Association, which serves as the local and regional circuit for WGI Winds ensembles in California and the greater West coast.
Seth is currently in his eighth year as one of the two directors of bands at Arcadia High School in Arcadia, CA. His band is comprised of 3 concert bands, a marching band that consists of 300+ students, 3 percussion ensembles, and 2 colorguards. Murphy lives in Azusa, CA with his wife, Kimi, and two sons Gavin and Grayson.
Murphy is more than honored and elated to be joining the brass staff at the Cadets. He has been a fan of the Cadets for many years, and is excited to become a small part of the huge success story that the Cadets has had for such a long time.
